Biography

Kiara Advani (born Alia Advani on July 31, 1991) is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Hindi cinema alongside highly successful ventures in Telugu films. Born in Mumbai to businessman Jagdeep Advani and teacher Genevieve Jaffrey, she hails from a lineage connected to Hindi cinema; legendary actor Ashok Kumar is her step-great-grandfather, and actor Saeed Jaffrey is her great-uncle. She completed her schooling at the Cathedral and John Connon School and graduated with a degree in Mass Communications from Jai Hind College, Mumbai. Prior to her film debut, she changed her first name to Kiara. She made her acting debut in the Hindi comedy *Fugly* (2014), which earned her a Screen Award nomination for Best Female Debut. Her first major commercial breakthrough arrived two years later portraying Sakshi Rawat in the highly successful sports biopic *M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story* (2016). In 2018, she made a sensational debut in Telugu cinema starring as Vasumathi opposite Mahesh Babu in the political action blockbuster *Bharat Ane Nenu*. That same year, she garnered immense critical appreciation for her performance in the Netflix anthology film *Lust Stories* (2018), which showcased her acting versatility and significantly boosted her prominence. Advani achieved massive pan-Indian stardom and career-defining success in 2019. She starred as Preeti in the romantic drama *Kabir Singh*, which emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, and followed it with the blockbuster comedy *Good Newwz*, for which she won the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actress. She further solidified her position as a bankable leading lady with critically acclaimed and commercially successful roles, portraying Dimple Cheema in the war biopic *Shershaah* (2021) and Katha in the romantic drama *Satyaprem Ki Katha* (2023). Both performances earned her nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Her box-office supremacy was further established through major 2022 blockbusters, the horror-comedy *Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2* and the family drama *Jugjugg Jeeyo*. Advani boasts a massive slate of upcoming tentpole releases spanning through 2025 and 2026. Her highly anticipated 2025 projects include her return to Telugu cinema in S. Shankar's political action thriller *Game Changer* opposite Ram Charan, and her entry into the YRF Spy Universe in the action-thriller *War 2* alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR. Slated for 2026, she is set to headline the massive pan-Indian action crime film *Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups* opposite Yash.
